The Dwindling Options of Bernard Hopkins: Is the Execution Over?

There have been many great fights for both former Middleweight Champions Bernard Hopkins and Felix Trinidad.

Hopkins has been the ageless wonder for some time now and I have learned first hand that it is never smart to bet against “The Executioner.” Trinidad is a Puerto Rican icon who even today is still swarmed wherever he goes in his country. Both fighters gave us so many great memories in the ring and on one night, September 29th, 2001, they came together and since then neither fighters’ career was ever the same.

It is a common theme in boxing as we often see one fighter start the downward journey towards the end of his career and at that exact same apex we see the other fighter start his assent towards better things. The strange thing is that it was Trinidad, the younger fighter, who started his downward descent and Hopkins, the older fighter who actually used the fight to propel himself to stardom and better things.

Now close to 8 years later we are faced with the prospect of a rematch of that very fight. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of another matchup between these two great legends of the ring is:
