Dawson decisions Tarver
AGAIN!/ By Enrique Olivieri 5/10/09Chad
Dawson (now 28-0 17KO's) unanimously decisioned Antonio Tarver (now 27-6,
19KO's) and defended his IBF/IBO light heavyweight title in a forced upon
Dawson contractual rematch. This time around it wasn't the same Tarver as
the first fight, this time around it was a way more focused Tarver, but he
was in against a young fighter in his prime with a title and an undefeated
record. Though one sided for most of the fight, it proved to be way more
competitive than the first fight.
Though Dawson controlled the action in the fight, he never took chances
and never tried to totally dominate the 40 year old Tarver. Tarver did come
to fight and even won a few rounds convincingly. Boxing fans who saw this
fight will talk about this fight and they'll also be talking about Chad
Dawson, here's what they're probably going to say... Dawson is in his 20's
and Tarver is 40, not to take anything away from Tarver, but Dawson's 26
years old and this fight wasn't a walk in the park for him and it should
have been. Though Dawson and his trainers may beg to differ, he had a
tougher fight than he's ever going to say. If Dawson ever wants to be a PPV
super star fighter, he need to step up his game and call out Glenwood
Johnson for a rematch, this is a fight many boxing fans really want to see
after the questionable decision he was given during there first meeting.
