May: A Great Month for Manny
Pacquiao & the MMA
By SJ Jarapa-May 6, 2009
Putting aside the scare of the latest edition of the influenza series—a.k.a.
Swine-Flu—that is presently sweeping across the globe, the fight-game on May
is looking to lighten things up with the splendid launch on 2nd when the
paramount demolishers of East and West at long last came into a much-awaited
fistic collision – followed by a face-off on the 19th between two prevailing
hurricanes of the Octagon.
Much has been said, so many praises lay on the board, about the reigning
Pound-For-Pound King and 5-Division World Titlist Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao’s
vaunted collection of weapons which embraces a wealth of high-velocity
offensive-motions that come in every angle imaginable coalescing with
high-impact slugs that land with surgical precision.
While all this make up the storm of the century, frankly, to me, what
elevates The PacMan to a sphere higher than a cloud-bringing thunderstorm is
his knack for learning – that every time he steps in the squared-circle
there is always something fresh on the table.
To cut straight to the point, he gets better in every fight.
The best thing that separates Manny Pacquiao from other boxers is that he
prides himself an entertainer effortlessly as he does himself as a boxer.
When he fought former champion Oscar Larios in his native Philippines, rumor
has it; he was so deeply bothered by the over-priced admission fee that he
chose—much to the spectators delight—to play out the whole 12 rounds of
boxing and threw all the flashy combos he could handle in every single round
instead of just blowing through his opponent with an easy KO.
