Pacquiao KO's Hatton in 2! By Enrique Olivieri 4/03/09

No one should question it any more, Manny Pacquiao (now 49-3-2 37 KO's) is the reigning pound for pound fighter in the world today. It only took Pacquiao two rounds totally dominate then knockout Britan's Ricky Hatton (45-2 32 KO's) in a fight that everyone thought would be a fight that would be talked about for ages. Pacquiao came into the fight with the glory of being the fighter who forced Oscar De La Hoya to retire after beating him up last year, Hatton was on a two fight win streak and was know being trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr. It was great stuff for the HBO 24/7 series that hyped this fight, but when both entered the ring it was a different story.  Right from the opening bell Pacquiao broke the ice by landing a lightning fast right Read more

This event took place on May 2, 2009 and was aired live on HBO PPV.

Abregu KO's Garcia in a War!/Enrique Olivieri 5/02/09

This fight took place on May 1, 2009 and was broadcast live on SHOBOX from the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California.

With three knockdowns in four rounds and punches flying from the opening bell, Luis Carlos Abregu (now 27-0, 22KO's) found himself in a very unexpected war against Irving Garcia (now 17-4-3, 8KO's) after all Garcia was not known as a power puncher with just eight knockouts. Right from the start the undefeated Abregu got dropped and was almost out in the first minute of the fight, somehow this tough as nails fighter got up. In the second round Abregu started to hit Garcia with everything but the kitchen sink for but Garcia wasn't going anywhere. These two fighters where not trying to establish any type of game plan, they where swinging for KO's. In the fourth round Garcia caught Abregu with a left that should have ended the fight, some how the undefeated Argentinean fighter got up, you talk about the heart of a fighter! Garcia with the fight all but won attacked but again Abregu had different plans, he somehow dropped Garcia against the ropes, though on his way to beat the count the referee did the right thing and stopped the contest at 2:59 of round four. This was the best fight I've seen this year so far.

BOXING RESULTS: Lopez stops Penalosa in the 9th Enrique Olivieri 4/25/09

This championship fight took place on 4/25/09 at the Coliseo Ruben Rodríguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico as was aired live on HBO.

Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez (25-0, 23 KO's) did what no other fighter has been able to do, he stopped former WBO Bantanweight Champion Gerry Penalosa (54-7-2, 36KO's) in the nineth round. The fight went Lopez's way from round one as the Puerto Rican puncher Lopez imposed his will with wicked punching on the shorter but game Penalosa  who even landed a few bombs on Lopez in a fight that seemed to have a record breaking punch output. The end came at the end of the ninth round as veteran trainer Freddie Roach had the fight stopped, in a post fight interview Roach stated Lopez was just too strong for Penalosa. Not only did Lopez retain his WBO Junior Featherweight Title in this fight he now has thirteen straight knockouts.

BOXING RESULTS: Froch KO's Taylor in the 12th and retains title Enrique Olivieri 4/25/09

This Championship fight took place on 4/25/09 at the Foxwoods Resort Casino, Mashantucket, Connecticut and was aired live on SHOWTIME

A few days ago everyone was asking, "who's this Carl Froch guy", tonight everyone found out who he is, he's the undefeated WBC Super Middleweight Champion who just knocked out the former Middleweight Champion Jermain Taylor in the 12th round in a fight that he was trailing on all the score cards. Taylor dropped Froch  with an overhand right in the second round and it really looked like the fight wasn't going to go twelve rounds. As the fight progressed, Taylor took control and kind of neutralized Froch's punching by not letting him land anything of susbstance. During the middle rounds Taylor's output began to slow down. From the 9th round on it was a different fight as Froch began to land  his jab more often. In the 12th everything changed, all Taylor had to do was last three minutes and he had another title in the bag, Froch had different plans as he pressed forward and landed a right that put Taylor on the ropes, after a series of punches Taylor was down and he got up but after another series of punches by Froch the referee stepped in and put an end to it with only 14 seconds remaining in the fight. The official time was 2:46 of round twelve.

Chambers decisions Peter in big step up fight/By Enrique Olivieri - 3/28/09

Eddie Chambers (34-1, 18 KOs) won a decision over the former heavyweight champion Sam Peters (30-3, 23 KOs) in a ten rounder which was aired live on ESPN2. Peter who came into the fight at 265lbs seemed sluggish against the younger Chambers who showed his speed in spurts during the fight. Chambers used really nice movement and a snapping jab  and a nice right over the course of the fight but never took total control in a fight that could have been a walk in the park for him. Peter on the other hand  seemed to start running out of gas in mid way during the fight and never showed the aggression and punching power that everyone expected to see. in the final rounds of the fight Chambers appeared to be the fresher of the two never but never took advantage when he should have. At the final bell the score where 95-95, 96-94 and 99-91 in favor of the once beaten Eddie Chambers.
